Identifying female and male plants is fun, and an important skill for any cannabis cultivator. We have provided photos here to help you identify the differences between male and female cannabis flowers. Male and Female plants have distinct differences that are easy to discern once a grower knows the identifying features of each. Female plants grow “white hairs” from nodes where branches intersect the main stem of the plant. Male plants grow “green pods” from the nodes where branches intersect the main stem of the plant.

*Important note: Early in a plants life it can be difficult to discern whether a pant is male or female. When the plants are in the earliest stages of showing whether they are female or male, they produce a small green growth at the point where a branch and the main stem connect. Usually waiting a few more days to a few more weeks will reveal whether they are female or male. Keep watching the growth forming at the node and look for the signs of female or male traits.

Many people choose to remove male plants from their garden, unless they specifically want their female plants to create seeds.
